So last week I said our investigators have challenges, right? Well, boy do some of them have challenges! I don't think should talk about them all here, but it made Hna. Macias and I very sad to hear some of the aspects of their lives. BUT, we have lots of faith, and Emmanuel and Delgis are actively working on making changes, so that is very encouraging. We will also be working through the Church's addiction recovery program that is based on 12 Steps, so that will be an adventure too. We have met some more great people who really want to learn, and it's exciting. Can I just say for the billionth time, that studying the scriptures and the Gospel is just about the best thing ever? We encounter a lot of beliefs about the Bible and what it says that are just plain wrong. Things like Jesus wrote the Old Testament in stone, and things like Tevye says in Fiddler on the Roof-- "The Good Book says..." "Uh, the Bible does not say that..." But with studying the scriptures we can actually know what the Good Book says! ALSO we finally got the Conference talks, and it is super exciting, because I am basically reading these talks for the first time since we listened to Conference in Spanish in Villa Gonzalez, and the congregation was super loud and irreverent (it's a problem they have there, children AND adults) so I understood relatively little. SO you should all delight in the scriptures like Nephi says, the words of ancient and modern prophets. Don't be confused about the scriptures, becuase you have way more resources to actually learn from them then the Average Juan does in the DR.
Love you all, enjoy 4th of July!
