We had 2 baptisms on Saturday. One was a 12 year old daughter of a recent convert. Her newish husband introduced her to the church, and they will be moving to Spain later this year, where he is from. They are a cool family. He baptized his step daughter, and it was very sweet. They will be sealed in about a year, and we are all (the missionaries) thinking about going on a trip to be there in the temple after the mission.
The other baptism was a 9 year old boy. His father is a member and his mother is not, and we are helping them be strengthened in the Gospel. They are another sweet family. The parents are very loving and conscientious, and the children are very well-behaved. You don´t see families like that very often here.
The branch is small, and there are about 6 active preisthood holders, so we are focusing on strengthening the branch, especially the men, so that the branch doesn´t get closed. The branch president is very cool. He is spear-heading the efforts to reactivate menos activos. He gave me a blessing on Sunday, and it was a very special experience. I have such a strong testimony of the power of the priesthood because of this mission. We are looking for new people to teach, and things have been kind of slow recently, but I have faith and the assurances of the Lord that things will pick up.
We are teaching one man, and his growth and testimony of the Gospel is a privilige to participate in. He reads the Book of Mormon faithfully and always has questions for us. He always takes his time to form his questions and think about what we are talking about. His baptism is for next month and I´m very excited about it.
Random adventure: we had a mouse in the house for about a week. It startled me one morning by popping out of the dishes. We bought sticky rat catching paper and it caught the mouse this morning. We called the elders to remove it. They took it outside and I think they were deciding what to do with it, when a pre-teen girl walked by coming back from the colmado with her bag of galletas. She saw their hesitation and the plastic baseball bat in the street and she went for it and ´dispatched´ that poor little mouse. Several times. And went on her way down the street. That is the Republica for you.
Enjoyed you email very much! Love you guys!
