I can tell you guys about an exciting service project I helped with last Thursday. I was on intercambio with Hna. Malabi who is from my group. Also she's from South Africa, and she's awesome, her accent is so fun. Also, Elder Vellinga from the MTC is in her ward now, and we met up with him and his companion to clean out an old water cistern at someone's house. It basically a concrete room below their car port that is used to hold water. It was at least 10 feet deep, with water at my height. At first we were dropping down buckets and hauling out the nasty water, but we realized that would be really inefficient. We decided to look for as ladder and send Elder Vellinga down. I was afraid they would drop him and kill him as they lowered him down to the ladder that was only about 6 feet tall, but they didn't and we pulled up the buckets he filled and dumped them out for 3 hours. It was pretty fun.
Fredis has his baptism on Saturday and I'm still super excited!
Pres. Castillo is cracking down on tigueraje in the mission. Tigueraje is a Dominican word for delinquency more or less, and so in the mission, tigueraje is disobedience like inappropriate music. We can't watch Disney movies any more on PDay. These are really important changes because this mission has a lot of tigres in it (like delinquent, not tigers). But it felt good to realize that the 'changes' don't affect me much because I'm not really disobedient. What a relief! I do have to take care of my clothes better though, because they aren't as permissive about work (sweat) worn clothing as they used to be. Or dirty shoes. My shoes are always filthy. But I'm going to clean my shoes every morning now because obedience brings blessings. It is the only way to get the work done, even if we don't understand the reasons why.
I love you, take care,
Hna. J.
